Protaras - Places of interest

PLACES OF INTEREST

PROFITIS ELIAS(PROFET ELIAS)

Right in the heart of the tourist area of Protaras , you will find the chapel of Profitis Elias, the land mark of Protaras. It is built on a granite hill with almost perpendicular sides. In the 90s a small church in the Buzantine style was built there to replace the small room that was used as a church. What makes interesting and exciting the visit to Profitis Elias, is that you have to climb about 100 steep stone steps. But is worthy as the view from the top of the hill is panoramic. Day and night, as the chapel has been illuminated.

ST. GEORGE CHURCHES

St. George is the patron Saint of Paralimni – Protaras. The two main churches in Paralimni are dedicated to St. George. They are both situated in the central square of Paralimni, next to each other, making an interesting contrast. The old one was built back in the 19th century and the new one, which is now the main church of the community, was built in 1965. The center of Paralimni is probably a unique one in the whole world, as there are three churches next to each other of three different periods of construction. The two mentioned above and a third one which was built 700 years ago and for which you can find information under the title Historical Places.
